During the early morning hours Thursday May 29th Neighborhood Watch Citizens of the Park Place Subdivision, notified the Sheriff’s Department of a suspicious vehicle parked near two houses that are under construction.

Sheriff Stewart stated that the first unit to arrive was Cpl Charles Pendley who located the vehicle but was unable to locate anyone around the vehicle.  Stewart stated that Pendley pulled out of the area and began watching the vehicle.

After about an hour of watching the vehicle it paid off.  Pendley observed three suspects come from the houses and got into the vehicle and began to drive off.  As Deputy Pendley approached the vehicle, the driver drove away from the Deputy.  Deputy Pendley attempted to stop the vehicle, and the driver refused to stop.  Pendley chased the vehicle into Pike County, where the vehicle was forced to a stop at Flat Rock Church Road @ Hwy 19.

Sheriff Stewart stated that the driver was identified as James Keith Eason 18 years old of Brooks Georgia.  The passengers were identified as Mitchell S. Greer 18 years old of Brooks Georgia and a juvenile who was also from Brooks Georgia.

Sheriff Stewart said Deputy Pendley searched the vehicle and located copper wiring inside the vehicle which was identified as being taken from the two houses in the sub division.

All three suspects were charged with Felony Theft by Taking.  The driver was also charge with multiple traffic violations.

Sheriff Stewart wanted to thank the quick response of the citizens who notified the Sheriff’s Department of the suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood.  With the rising theft of copper wiring throughout the State of Georgia, these types of crimes cannot be solved without the help of watchful neighbors in the residential areas.

Due to numerous thefts in that neighborhood that are currently under investigation by Spalding and Pike County Sheriff’s Department’s, more charges may occur to the suspects that were arrested according to Sheriff Stewart.
